Between September 16 to 23, Isabelle and Léa Gauthier raced at the Balkan Off-road Rallye in Bulgaria. Mother and daughter drove in a rally together for the first time and picked up 6th spot in the general rankings and cross-country category. A look back at this adventure and one of Europe's top off-road racing events.

2,400 kilometers and 8 stages along the Bulgarian coast from north to south. The Balkan Off-road Rallye ended last September 23 on Pink Lake beach. For Isabelle Gauthier (Léa's mother), this was an incredible adventure after more than 20 years without ever following a road-book. The first few days were a little hairy, straying from the straight and narrow and then flipping the car over mid-stage… It looked worse than it was, and mother and daughter were true to their motto of "hang on in there!". Their Yamaha was able to carry on more or less unscathed after the incident thanks to sterling work from their mechanics and technical teams.

Unfailing determination

The twosome then completed the course in fine style, despite a sixth day in heavy rain throughout the rally's longest stage of 232 km. This year, though, the terrain was pretty dry and stoney, so the BFGoodrich® tires really came into their own. Not a single puncture in 8 days of hard driving. The determination shown by Isabelle and Léa was enough for them to pick up 6th place in the general rankings. They also finished 1st in three categories: female driver, under 130 HP, and the Yamaha category.

Congratulations to this dream team! BFGoodrich® was happy to have supported them throughout the rally and wishes them a safe return home to France.
